I (heart) Koru Club

November 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

For years I’ve watched and heard about the joys of Koru Club… I have a few friends who travel enough to be among the Gold or Gold Elite members of their various frequent flyer loyalty clubs… but I’ve never travelled with one of them at the same time, thus, I have never entered past those hallowed doors.

Don’t think I haven’t tried, during our stopover in Bangkok last year (which, if you haven’t seen the news, I’m glad I’m not there now) I wandered to any Star Alliance airline that I could find and asked if they wanted to let me in on my normal-person card. They said no. I tend to travel for long times, but not do much flying – usually its a there-and-back job, so I never get enough airpoints or status credits to actually gain membership myself.

It is with great joy that I am blogging, live, from the Koru Club at LAX. My friend SJ and I arranged months ago to travel home together from the USA – despite not having seen each other at all while we were here. So, SJ met up with me downstairs and informed me that we had Koru Club access. She met someone who invited us to be his guests… and so of course we accepted… free food and espresso makes me happy.

Now I want even MORE to do enough travelling so I get Gold Status myself.

Adventures on State Line Road…

November 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Right now I’m on my second to last night in Kansas City… living on the Missouri state side but we frequently venture into Kansas. There is this one main road called State Line which literally divides one state from the other.

I’m staying with a couple of friends who I met at YWAM Perth – Angel was my small group leader, and then my large team leader for India, and Shawn is her husband who was on staff with a YWAM Perth ministry called Youth Street. They’re full time staff members at IHOP-KC… so since I don’t have a car, I drive everywhere with them.

I’ve been spending time at the International House of Prayer… in the prayer room… and I also did a 10 day track of a short term programme called ‘The Commission.’ The focus of the class when I joined was ‘The Bridal Paradigm at the end of the age’ - basically, intimacy and eschatology, Revelation 19-22. I also got to sit on three days of a FSM class on eschatology taught by David Sliker which was very very illuminating.

I leave here on Monday and head to Tampa… I’m in Tampa till Friday when I fly to Phoenix… then on Tuesday 25 November I fly out of Phoenix and head for Wellington (yay!)
