It’s 12.53am and outside my window town is pumping, I’m currently boarding right in the centre of the city. I just got home from Tahuna beach… I spent the evening at a new friends house with a bunch of girls having a BBQ… then about 11.45pm we went down to the beach and jumped in the water. It was pretty choppy, lots of waves, but there was a fireworks display out on the water which lasted for about ten minutes and started at midnight so we stayed in the water for twenty minutes. It was hardly even cold… this was a good New Year.

A rather confused state of things…

It’s quite odd to be in my original hometown… yet here as a visitor? I’m sleeping on a mattress in the lounge due to the fact there are 8 people in the house. I have no car, I have my own laptop (but we’re going shopping laptops tomorrow) and love my parents broadband… but still, I’m trying very hard to eradicate Wellington as ‘home’ from my vocabulary.
Living in Nelson has been challenging but good… I’ve been sunburnt three times in two weeks, all of them fairly viciously. It was 26 degrees Celcius today, and beautifully warm, and as I walked with my friend to pick up her son from preschool I got nice and red in the 25 minutes we were out in the sunshine. This move is permanent… at least as far as I can tell, I have no plans to move anywhere else… and so I’m trying to train myself to think of Nelson as home now. Although Wellington will probably remain a home of sorts for a while yet.
It’s a little frustrating that its summer and life groups are shutting down and leadership college doesn’t start till February – its a great way to relax but not great for getting to know people because I don’t know that many to start with
I’m looking forwards to getting some more hours at work – I haven’t really had enough but it was nice to have some time to explore. I went out to Mapua last week and on to Motueka – half way to the Abel Tasman, but I’m saving the trip out there (and the gas!) for January.
